Five Celebrities You Didn’t Know Were Plumbers at One Time

You probably think of plumbers as being hard workers who aren’t afraid to use their hands and get a little dirty on the job. That’s kind of the opposite assumption most people make about the famous celebrities of our time.

That’s not to say every celebrity was born with a silver spoon in their mouth. Many had everyday blue collar day jobs before making it big, including plumbing!

Bob Hoskins

Famed actor Bob Hoskins once had trouble finding work due to a poor economy in England. He worked many manual labor jobs including in the plumbing industry. Hoskins would later go on to star as plumber Mario in the movie Super Mario Bros. and his most acclaimed role came in the film Mona Lisa.

Joe Cocker

Singer and musician Joe Cocker may be best remembered for his performance at Woodstock and his Beatles cover, “With a Little Help from My Friends,” which became the theme song for the TV series The Wonder Years. Before he became famous, Cocker grew up in Sheffield, England where he worked as a plumber and an apprentice gasfitter.

Michael Caine

Before he went on to become one of the most decorated actors of all time, Michael Caine worked as a plumber’s assistant after serving in the Korean War. Caine was trying to find an apprenticeship before his film career took off, and went on to star in several movies including Alfie, Hannah and Her Sisters, The Cider House Rules and The Dark Knight Trilogy. He holds the distinction of being one of just two actors to be nominated for at least one Academy Award each decade since the 1960s.

John Gotti

The notorious boss of the Gambino crime family never actually worked as a plumber, but posed as a plumbing supplier to stay off the radar and launder money. While we don’t know if Gotti actually performed any plumbing work, we do know that “The Teflon Don” became one of the most dangerous and powerful crime bosses in America before he was finally convicted.

Ozzy Osbourne

Before becoming a famous rock star and reality television personality, Ozzy Osbourne dropped out of school to work as a plumber’s assistant. He didn’t last very long in the profession, turning to a life of crime and spending time in prison. These life choices ended up working out for Ozzy who would go on to become quite famous and a pioneer in the rock and roll industry.
