Performed by a Licensed Electrician

Electrical Safety Inspections

At South West, we perform a multi-point electrical safety inspection including:

The real dangers with older homes are things you can’t see, which is why a thorough safety inspection performed by a licensed electrician is crucial.

  • Your Home’s Electrical System
We check your home for any faulty connections or safety hazards as well as provide recommendations that can help you save energy and lower your utility bills. While we can’t tear open your walls to check for faulty wiring, we can tell a lot from just checking your panel, outlets and fixtures.

  • Electrical Panels
Electrical Panels need to be inspected at least once per year to check for loose wires, faulty breakers, hot spots and to ensure that all wires are connected properly.

  • GFCI (Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter) Protection
These outlets can automatically sense irregular voltage in a circuit and trip an internal breaker to prevent injury, shock or fire. These outlets should be tested at least once a month by home owners. We will also check these connections for hot spots using an infrared scanner.

  • Arc-Fault Protection
These types of circuit breakers have been required in new construction since 2008 and should also be installed in older homes. They serve to prevent electrical fires and current arcing.

  • Back-Stabbed Connections
This refers to a shortcut used by some electricians whereby wiring for light switches and outlets is inserted into the back of the unit instead of screwed in place using the provided connectors. Unfortunately this happens all too often and can cause overheating and fire hazards.

  • Surge Protection
Electrical surges caused by inclement weather or faulty equipment can cause any number of issues. We’ll check for surge protection and will recommend a solution to best fit your needs and budget.

  • Checking for Proper Grounding
More than often, older homes will have un-grounded plugs that can be hazardous, cause electric shocks or even fire. We’ll check your home to ensure proper grounding of all outlets and switches.

  • Checking for CSST (Corrugated Stainless Steel Tubing) Gas Pipes
These are un-grounded gas pipes that may exist in certain homes and can post a fire hazard if exposed to an electrical surge or lighting strike.
